Agreement drives EU towards end of internal combustion engine

EU environment and energy ministers cleared the way for the phase-out of the fossil internal combustion engine by 2035. The proposal is part of the Fit for 55 package and aims to reduce the EU's greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 and to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent.

Agreement on new Crypto rules to improve anti-money laundering standards & protect privacy

Negotiators from the European Parliament, Council and Commission have reached an agreement on the Transfer of Funds Regulation on anti-money laundering rules for crypto-assets. This regulation will strengthen the fight against money laundering, reduce fraud and improve the overall security of crypto transactions.

Member States should support clear & credible path to EU accession for Ukraine, Moldova & Western Balkans

European Union heads of state and government will meet at the European Council Summit in Brussels to discuss among other things Ukraine’s prospective candidacy for EU membership. The Greens/EFA Group strongly believes that Ukraine, Moldova and the Western Balkans should be given a credible and clear path to membership.

Nature restoration to bring back bees & bird song

The European Commission presented its long-awaited nature package that includes nature restoration and the reduction of the use of pesticides. This first of its kind nature restoration law proposes legally binding targets for different types of ecosystems in every Member State.

Fossil Alliance fails to crush climate action but more ambition needed

Members of the European Parliament have voted in favour of the mandates for the negotiations on the European Emission Trading System (ETS), the Carbon Border Adjustment System (CBAM), and the Social Climate Fund. The Greens/EFA welcome the compromise, even though it is not enough to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees.

Eurogroup outcome - EDIS

The Eurogroup failed to reach an agreement on a common European Deposit Insurance Fund (EDIS). The Commission proposed the EDIS back in 2015, however, so far there has been no progress on agreeing on the tool at the Member State level. The Greens/EFA Group will push this issue forward in the European Parliament.

Loss for rule of law with Polish RRP plan approved

European Ministers of Finance signed off on the Polish government’s Recovery and Resilience Plan as part of Next Generation EU. This is despite serious concerns about the implementation of reforms linked to restoring the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law.

MEPs reject classification of nuclear power and gas as sustainable
