Greens/EFA meeting in Nairobi

The Greens are organising an event in the European Union Pavilion in Nairobi in the context of the UN conference on climate change. Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize laureate 2004 Wangari Maathai will take part in the conference.

Climate change talks in Nairobi

The UN Climate Change Summit in Nairobi (9-17 November) enters its second week. The first days of the talks were rather disappointing due to the slow pace of progress. Frustration is growing among the representatives of the 190 countries taking part in the conference.

EU Kyoto targets

The latest projections of the European environment agency, released on Friday 27 October, show that the EU-15 member states will meet thei joint greenhouse gas reduction target. But it will rely on some countries using carbon sink accounting to adjust their emission figures.

No GMOs in our fields or on our tables !

On 29 September 2006, the Dispute Settlement Body of the WTO published its final ruling on the GMO policy of the EU which upholds the substance of the European GMO policy. That is the good news. The bad news is that it severely weakens the chances of securing a GMO policy based on the precautionary principle in the future.
