Energy funds

Hostages in Columbia

After the declaration presented by EP President in support of the hostages held by the FARC, Greens/EFA MEPs held up a poster of Ingrid Betancourt. The Greens/EFA Group hopes that this message from the European Parliament succeeds in reaching the FARC.

EU Spring Summit

On the eve of this year's spring European Council, the Greens/EFA group call on the European Council to stick to the promises they have repeatedly made during the past year. The EU will lose both its credibility and its leading role in the UN climate change negotiations if the compromises achieved are now called into question.

EU Spring Summit

The next EU Spring Summit or European Council will take place on 13 and 14 March. One of the main topic to be addressed will be climate change. The Slovenian Presidency is expected to push for more ambitious climate targets: a -30% GHG reduction by 2020 instead of the current -20%.

Petition for an "Open Parliament"

The European Parliament must practice what it preaches.At a press conference in the European Parliament today, the Greens called for an end to the Microsoft monopoly in the European Institutions. The Greens along with the organisation Open Forum Europe presented a petition against the current situation.

Study on transport emissions

The European Environment Agency issued a new study on the evolution of the emissions in the transport sector. Even though much is needed to tackle the growing emissions, too little is happening!

Environment Council

Yesterday the 27 ministers for Environment discussed the "climate package". Instead of showing leadership with strong EU domestic actions, they called for greater flexibility in legislative proposals to cut the EU's greenhouse gas emissions.

EU climate policy

At the occasion of their meeting in Brussels, the leaders of the German Greens in the European Parliament, the German Parliament and regional Parlaments unveiled a declaration on climate change. It aims at pushing the German government towards more leadership in concret climate-friendly measures.

Fuel Quality Directive

The representatives of EU governments agreed last week that the binding agrofuel sustainability criteria should be included in the revised version of the EU's 1998 Fuel Quality Directive. It would ensure that those standards are in place early to prevent the production of unsustainable and dirty agrofuels.

Nuclear power plant Mochovce

At a common press conference today in Bratislava, Greens/EFA MEP Rebecca Harms, supported the move of Greenpeace to act against the nuclear project in Mochovce. The Environmental Impact Assessment of the project is not in line with the EU rules.
