Thanks to your involvement, we have kept the failing reform of the European Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) on the agenda over the last weeks, and the Commission is feeling the pressure. Our campaigning is working – and we need to keep it up!
Despite the fact that the European ministers and the European Parliament adopted disastrous positions which will not help to stop the climate crisis, our call to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to withdraw this CAP has been heard. It is now at the heart of the debate, and the Commission has promised that it will do everything it can to make the CAP as green as possible, in line with the ambitions of the EU Green Deal.
We need your help to keep up the pressure.
The Commission is undecided between fixing the CAP and withdrawing the CAP. Clearly feeling the heat, Frans Timmermans, the Vice-President of the Commission, said that if the CAP fails to meet crucial climate objectives, he could still withdraw the whole thing.
Now, the priority is to make the CAP work for people and planet. This Thursday, negotiations on the CAP will continue, and it’s the Commission that has the power to make a change and fix the CAP. Let’s tell Vice-President Timmermans that we count on him to fix the CAP and to save our European Green Deal.
