We have power when we stand together
State of the European Union
On the final State of the European Union address given today to the European Parliament by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the Greens/EFA group Ska Keller comments:
"If Europe loses its democracy it will lose itself. Europe has promised democracy, the rule of law and civil liberties to all its citizens. It is dangerous for Europe that political leaders such as Viktor Orbán in Hungary are now increasingly undermining this promise.
"This is a threat to all of us and to those courageous people who stand up for our human rights and freedoms, be it in Sicily or Romania, in Chemnitz or Pirin. They defend democracy and humanity, and we see that we have power when we stand together. More than ever, every one of us has to take up his or her responsibility, it's time to take a stand."
