Building resilience

Alternative responses to the ecological, economic and social crises

  • Registration has now closed

There is no doubt that our society faces multiple crises; economic, ecological as well as social. However, the mainstream 'solutions' put forward consist of maintaining a vicious circle of borrowing to keep up high levels of consumption and growth, while implementing devastating and counterproductive cuts to public services. A society where an ever increasing part of the economy is based on loans will inevitably lead to, and increase, social imbalances and reinforce ecological damage and climate change, while blind fiscal austerity is preventing us from putting in place a much-needed ecological transition.

This conference will look at alternative responses to the crises such as the collective reduction of working time, the use of community currencies and the implementation of basic income. Experts in these fields will present and discuss these alternative policies and explain how they can contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future for all.
