Markéta Gregorova's nominee made it into the TOP 3 candidates for the Sakharov Prize

Markéta Gregorová, Pirate Member of the European Parliament, Vice-Chair of the Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, comments: 

"I congratulate the leaders os Venezuela's democratic resistance to Maduro's dictatorship. Both laureates represent the united  democratic future of their country. The Sakharov Prize is in good hands, even though my nominee, Azerbaijani political political prisoner Gubad Ibadoghlu, did not win. Even so, I consider it a great achievement that he has made it to the shortlist. Hopefully, at least, this attention will help his daughter, Zhala, and others in the figt for his freedom. I will continue to be involved in his case myself."

"After I met his brave daughter, Zhala, I believed that the nomination itself would help immensely in drawing attention to his case. And I hoped that he could also win. For he embodies everything that the Sakharov Prize seeks to honour every year: he exposed the corruption of political leaders, including the dictator Aliyev, he exposed the trafficking of Russian oil, and for that he was forcibly taken to prison and tortured. He has been a political prisoner for more than a year."
