Dutch ruling on Shell - quote from Bas Eickhout MEP

Climate

The Dutch courts have ruled that Shell must meet climate obligations, in line with the Paris Agreement, and reduce carbon emissions to -45% net by 2030. The case brought against Shell by Dutch NGOs could have major ramifications for fossils fuel companies.

Bas Eickhout MEP, Greens/EFA Vice Chair of the European Parliament's Environment Committee, comments:

"This ruling is really good news for the climate. It increases the pressure on large polluters and helps us in Europe to tighten climate policy for them as well. They can no longer escape the climate crisis: International climate targets must also apply to them."
