Time to do away with recycling toxic waste
Recycling
Toxic waste must not be reused under the guise of recycling. The vast majority of MEPs, voting on a resolution on the interface between product, chemical and waste legislation, call on the European Commission to propose rules against the recycling of toxic substances. All substances that fall under the REACH chemicals regulation must be excluded from recycling.
Davor Škrlec, member of the Greens/EFA group in the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, comments:
"It's time to do away with recycling toxic waste. It's dangerous for both health and the environment if toxic materials remain in circulation. The recycling label must not be misused as a way of prolonging the life of substances that have long been banned. Dirty recycling must be stopped and toxic substances should be put on a black list."
