Holocaust Memorial Day

Motto 'never forget' should ring loud and clear in today's Europe

In a statement on the seventieth anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp, Greens/EFA co-president Rebecca Harms and EP vice-president Ulrike Lunacek, who represented the European Parliament at the ceremony in Auschwitz, said:

"Today marks Holocaust Memorial Day, 70 years on from the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp. The motto 'never forget' should ring loud and clear in today's Europe, with the growth of movements based on intolerance of religion, race or sexual orientation. 'Never forget' must mean 'never again'. The recent growth in anti-Semitism and intolerance of ethnic and religious minorities requires a common and decisive response."
