Greens/EFA Group to continue cooperation between Greens & EFA MEPs

Elections

Today, the Greens and European Free Alliance (EFA) MEPs have agreed to continue 25 years of cooperation and reconstitute the Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament. This alliance aims to strengthen the representation and impact of both groups, uniting their efforts against far right forces on key issues such as climate action, social equality, and the defence of human rights.

The European Free Alliance (EFA) Group in the European Parliament brings together MEPs who advance the cause of Europe's stateless nations, regions, and disadvantaged minorities. EFA's integration into the Greens/EFA Group emphasises a strong commitment against the rise of the far-right, working together for a Europe that values its diversity and strives collectively towards a greener, fairer future.

Terry Reintke MEP, President of the Greens/EFA Group, said:

“We welcome that our group will continue with our friends and colleagues from the EFA Group. We have had a long standing and very fruitful relationship based on trust, respect and a shared vision for a Europe built on democracy, representation and respect. We look forward to working together over the next five years and will continue our shared fight against the far right and forces that seek to undermine our democracy. Together, we will continue to work towards saving the climate, social justice and respect for fundamental rights.”

Diana Riba i Giner MEP, First Vice-president of the Greens/EFA and President of the EFA Group, said:

“Joining forces as Greens/EFA Group will allow us to better represent and advocate for right to self-determination and the rights of minorities, regions and stateless nations across Europe. Together, we will have a united front towards those extreme forces that threaten our shared values of democracy, inclusivity and justice.”

“Our group has a long history defending and promoting progressive policies and standing up for environmental and social justice. I look forward to working closely with our Greens/EFA colleagues, our combined strength will guarantee the voices of Europe’s diverse communities will be heard and represented.”
