EFA MEPs: Migrant Lives Matter

EFA MEPs have taken part in a demonstration outside the European Parliament in Strasbourg calling for a more humane EU approach to migration, following the recent tragedies in the Mediterranean.

Ian Hudghton, Josep-Maria Terricabras, Jill Evans and Ernest Maragall were among those taking part.

Activists unfurled a huge list, more than 100 metres long, with the names of the 17,306 people who died between 1990 and 2012 trying to enter the European Union.

The Greens/EFA group is supporting moves to set up an EU funded search and rescue mission in the Mediterranean to alleviate the humanitarian crisis.

They have called for EU humanitarian aid to be increased and want to amend the EU's 2015 budget to provide support for a permanent sea search and rescue mission.
