Car companies must be held to account over possible collusion

Emissions cheating

The European Commission has just announced that it will open a formal investigation into whether BMW, Daimler and VW colluded to breach EU anti-trust rules around the roll-out of clean emissions technology.

Bas Eickhout environmental spokesperson for the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament comments:

"Once again the companies behind Dieselgate, BMW, Daimler and VW are under suspicion for ganging up to use dirty tricks to promote deadly cars for huge profits. There are over 400,000 premature deaths each year from air pollution and these companies need to be held to account. If they won't change their behaviour and move away from dirty diesel after such massive public outcry and scientific evidence then the Commission should hit them where it hurts, in their pockets."
