EU Industrial Policy
What Role for the Service Sector?
CONFERENCE DOCUMENTATION
PRESENTATION
The European Commission has been resolutely marching ahead with its plans for an industrial policy. These include, amongst others, a provisional target to raise the share of industry to GDP to 20% by 2020. But what role does the service sector play in an industrial strategy, especially with regards to the need for a transformation towards a resource efficient, low-carbon economy?
With this Greens/EFA conference, we would like to take the opportunity to discuss the role of the service sector and the myriad of challenges it is facing, such as the drive for liberalisation. This is even more interesting in the context of the negotiations on a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). We will give the floor to representatives of trade unions, governments, think tank and universities. The key note speech will be held by Frank Bsirske, chairman of the trade union on service industries in Germany.
