Vice-Presidents of the European Parliament
Greens/EFA candidate Ulrike Lunacek elected
The European Parliament has today re-elected Ulrike Lunacek as Vice-President. This will be her second term as Vice-President, having previously been elected in July 2014.
Commenting after the result, Ulrike Lunacek said:
"I would like to thank my colleagues for the broad confidence they have expressed in me. I am delighted to have the opportunity to continue my work as Vice-President of the European Parliament. As a strong advocate of European values and the fundamental rights of individuals and minorities, I will use my role to ensure the parliament demonstrates these values to the wider world.
"The European Union faces difficult times. I see my re-election as an opportunity to expand the social and environmental dimensions of the EU while defending the Union against the destructive fury of right-wing populists and extremists."
