Vicent Marzà elected Vice-President of European Parliament’s Committee on Housing

Vicent Marzà, EFA MEP, has been appointed Second Vice-President of the new Housing Crisis Committee. The European Parliament has established a Special Committee to tackle the growing housing crisis across the EU, where he will play a crucial role.

The Valencian MEP stressed the need for coordinated European action, the housing crisis varies across the EU, but common issues include real estate speculation, mass tourism inflating short-term rentals, and institutional inaction.

Marzà called for regulations to curb the financialisation of housing and prioritise social welfare, he emphasised the importance of sustainable urban planning and transparent management of European housing funds.

Vicent Marzà, EFA MEP, Vice-President of European Parliament’s Special Committee on Housing Crisis, said:

“Speculation and the uncontrolled rise in rent prices have turned housing into an unaffordable commodity for millions of citizens. Europe cannot continue to legislate solely for the capital markets while more and more people are struggling to access decent housing.”

“Homes are for living in, not for speculation. Europe has a key role to play in ending the idea that construction and housing are simply economic investments at the expense of people’s lives.”

“It is unacceptable that year after year, the number of tourist rentals continues to grow while young people find it increasingly difficult to achieve independence. We need a firm response from Europe to ensure that housing is a right, not a privilege.”

“We fought to be part of this committee, and we succeeded.”

“The pressure on rental prices is unsustainable, and Europe must take action now.”
