Reaction of Greens/EFA presidents
ECJ Białowieża forest ruling
The European Court of Justice has today ruled that the forestry management decisions taken by Poland concerning Białowieża forest infringed EU law.
Please find below a reaction from the Greens/EFA group co-presidents.
Greens/EFA co-president Ska Keller:
"The ruling brings justice to all those who for years have put their heart and soul into the protection of one of the last primeval forests in Europe. The ruling is a signal to the Polish government that it must respect European rule of law, not only in nature conservation, but also when it comes to freedom of the press, independent judiciary and women's rights."
Greens/EFA co-president Philippe Lamberts:
“It is vital that we preserve our natural heritage, but the importance of this ruling does not stop there. The Polish government has repeatedly undermined rule of law, showing little respect for the fundamental values that bind Europe together. I hope this ruling will at last convince the Polish government that they need to change course.”
