Huawei: Quote from MEP Daniel Freund
Greens/EFA MEP Daniel Freund, Rapporteur for the EU Ethics Body in the previous mandate, comments ahead of today's debate on the ongoing corruption investigation involving Huawei at the European Parliament in Strasbourg:
"EU policy must not be up for sale. It was only a matter of time before another corruption case emerged within the EU institutions. The Parliament has failed to draw the right conclusions from past cases. Anti-corruption rules in the European Parliament are not being enforced.
"The primary responsibility for this lies with the EPP, which is currently blocking all efforts to enhance transparency. It is disgraceful that the ethics body is still unable to begin its work. This is how we erode the trust of EU citizens in European democracy."
