Greens/EFA Group nominate Alice Bah Kuhnke for European Parliament President

European Parliament Presidency

The Greens/EFA Group have voted in favour of nominating Alice Bah Kuhnke MEP, to run for the President of the European Parliament in next week's vote. She has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2019 and is a Vice President of the Greens/EFA Group, as well as a Member of the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, and Women’s Rights and Gender Equality Committees.

Alice Bah Kuhnke MEP, Greens/EFA Group candidate for European Parliament President, comments:

“The untimely death of our President David Sassoli, has marked this election for the new president with shock and sadness. The entire European Parliament is in mourning. He was taken from us far too soon. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. We will remember him as a voice for solidarity, justice, democracy and a stronger Europe. I present my candidacy knowing that David Sassoli’s legacy of support for pro-European parliamentary democracy must be respected and must endure.

“We in the Greens/EFA Group stand for a feminist, sustainable and democratic Europe and call on all MEPs to support these principles. The climate crisis is too urgent, the threat to biodiversity, our forests and oceans too serious for us not to act now. The European Parliament must stand hand in hand with its citizens in building a sustainable and inclusive future together. This is why I’ve put forward my candidacy for President of the European Parliament.”
