Greens/EFA MEP Lunacek elected as vice-president of the European Parliament

Greens/EFA MEP Ulrike Lunacek (Austria) was today elected vice-president of the European Parliament. After the vote, Ulrike Lunacek stated:

"I am honoured by the trust shown in me by MEPs today. As made clear in my campaign, there is a need to rebuild public trust in an open, transparent, greener and more ethical European Parliament that truly represents EU citizens and defends democracy and human rights at EU level. This includes strengthening the role of the European Parliament and making it more visible, as well as providing a counterweight to populism and extremism in Europe. These are challenges I intend to take up as vice-president. Realising a single seat for the European Parliament and ensuring greater transparency of lobbying are also core priorities."
