Comments from Greens/EFA co-presidents on EU-Canada relations

Canadian President Justin Trudeau addressed the European Parliament in Strasbourg

Reactions from Greens/EFA Co-Presidents Philippe Lamberts and Ska Keller.

Greens/EFA Co-President Philippe Lamberts

"It is of the utmost importance that Europe and Canada work together on human rights, justice and climate protection. Justin Trudeau’s government has been a positive contrast to the attitude of the Trump administration. However, in continuing the work of his predecessor on CETA, Trudeau has shown himself to be more a man of continuity than one looking to disrupt the status quo."

Greens/EFA Co-President Ska Keller

"Justin Trudeau shares our values in many areas and has earned our respect in the way he has responded to refugees. In terms of climate protection, Canada must meet its global responsibilities. Trudeau has to follow through on his commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement. Canada, together with the EU, can play a leading role in global climate protection. But for this to happen, Trudeau has to end his support for the Keystone pipeline, the environmentally harmful project to carry tar sand oil from Canada to the USA."
