Looking beyond today's Irish referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, Greens/European Free Alliance priorities from the EU agenda and its events for next week are listed below. One press conference is planned, on Wednesday on the topic of press freedom in Italy.

Tuesday, 6 October 2009
A joint meeting of the EP foreign affairs and development committees will vote to shortlist three candidates for the institution's Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. In the first round, the Greens/EFA Group nominated three activists from the Russian fundamental rights organisation 'Memorial'.
Wednesday, 7 October 2009
The EP plenary will vote to create a Parliament committee dedicated to issues related to the financial crisis.
Thursday, 8 October 2009
The EP plenary will vote on two resolutions on the effects of the crisis in developing countries and on the G20 summit.
A joint meeting of the legal affairs, constitutional affairs and civil liberties committees will examine the far-reaching Stockholm programme.

Conference Circassian Day: "Diaspora and homeland"

> Green MEP Ska Keller takes over the hosting of this annual event relating to the Circassians, a people originating from the Caucasus. It was previously hosted by former Green MEP Cem Özdemir, who will be a guest speaker this time. Other speakers will represent "Circassians in diaspora" and "Circassians in the homeland".
Fair: Meet civil society

> Ten "thematic stands" will bring civil society representatives into the heart of the European Parliament over three days. > With Greens/EFA Co-president Daniel Cohn-Bendit and Dutch Green MEP Judith Sargentini.An Italian study exposing severe shortcoming in press freedom in Silvio Berlusconi's Italy will also be presented at the press conference. A Greens/EFA resolution on the same topic is due to be voted in the EP plenary on 21 October in Strasbourg.
