The way towards a European feminist foreign policy

A foreign policy centred on fairness, inclusivity and empowerment, particularly for women and marginalized groups, can be a powerful catalyst for global change. Yet, no country is set to achieve gender equality and empowerment for all women and girls by 2030, and discrimination and systemic injustices against marginalized communities persist.

The solution? A foreign policy for everyone! Many EU Member States and governments all around the world have decided to pursue such a policy under the term “Feminist Foreign Policy”. The number of Civil Society Organisations advocating to put the security of people and not that of states at the heart of Foreign Policy is growing. The EU also has taken steps in the right direction with its Spotlight Initiative or its latest Gender Action Plan III – yet it still lags behind in terms of a fully-fledged Feminist Foreign Policy.

So how do we get there, the European Union and its 27 member states? This is the central question of this conference, opened with a keynote speech of German Minister for Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock, followed by a high-level podium discussion and three subsequent panels focusing on building alliances, stocktaking and policy coherence. We hope you will enjoy the event!
