Solar power
World's largest solar energy plant in Portugal
The solar panels of this plant are raised 2 metres off the ground and cover an area of 60 hectares, covering the hills of a valley dotted with olive groves. It is located about 100 kms southeast of LIsbon.
The solar power plant will produce 20 GWh per year through its 52,000 photovoltaic modules. The 56 million plant is expected to bring alternative development to this region and there are already plans to build a similar one in a neighbouring town.
This plant has been build in the contexte of high increases in the greenhouse gas emissions of Portugal, as they surged about 37% since 1990!
