Greens/EFA request public access

Andrej Babiš audit report

In a letter to EU-Commissioner Johannes Hahn, Mikuláš Peksa, Greens/EFA Member of the Czech Pirates, on behalf of the Greens/EFA in the European Parliament calls to publish the European Commission´s audit report immediately regarding the investigation against Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš on conflict of interest. The Greens/EFA request public access to the report in the name of freedom of information.

Mikuláš Peksa, Greens/EFA Member of the Czech Pirates and of the Budgetary Control Committee comments:

“The Greens/EFA strongly encourage the European Commission to publish the report as soon as possible and to take further action on Andrej Babiš by putting pressure on the representatives of Agrofert in the Czech government. It needs to respond now to the conflict of interest and not let the Czech people and all Europeans wait for another 2 months. Justice has already been postponed enough. It is essential that the European Commission shares the report to guarantee a transparent process.”

The European Commission’s audit has held Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš under scrutiny and found that he had a conflict of interest with his private conglomerate Agrofert, an agricultural empire. The Commission sent the final audit report in English to the Czech authorities on Friday, 29th November. However, the report still needs to be sent in Czech to the government, which will then grant them 2 months to reply.

The Budgetary Control Committee will debate the Andrej Babiš case on Thursday, 5th December from 9.00 am onwards. On that occasion, Mikuláš Peksa will urge for an ad hoc mission to the Czech Republic.
