Political crisis in Montenegro
Greens/EFA group supports calls for transparency and fair elections
The Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament has always been a strong supporter of the EU accession and integration processes of the countries in the Western Balkans region. In the context of the current political crisis in Montenegro, everything should be done in order to prevent delay or blockage of the EU accession negotiations. These negotiations and the resulting implementation of new laws should lead to more transparency, a strong civil society, decreased corruption and organised crime, and a state based on the rule of law in which all groups and all minorities enjoy their rights.
To this end, the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament supports the efforts of POZITIVNA CRNA GORA to preserve the integrity, independence and political stability of Montenegro. It is also essential that their call for fair and independent elections is guaranteed. The continuation of the Euro-Atlantic integration process and the fight against corruption and organised crime must also remain priorities in Montenegro.
