President Macron: show leadership on tax reforms
Tax Justice
On Tuesday 17 April, French President Emmanuel Macron will take visit the European Parliament for a debate on the Future of Europe. Ahead of his visit, a group of Greens/EFA MEPs has written to him, calling on him to show leadership on tax justice.
The letter calls on him to push for agreement at Council level on proposals on country-by-country public reporting and a common consolidated corporate tax base, measures that are vital for ensuring multinationals pay their fair share of tax.
Greens/EFA tax justice spokesperson Eva Joly comments:
"For two years, the proposal to improve the transparency of multinationals has been on the table, and for two years the Council has been procrastinating. It is unacceptable that European governments continue to block progress on combating tax evasion. The long overdue reforms need to be enacted to ensure that multinationals pay their fair share of taxes. We are calling on President Macron to show leadership and encourage his partners to reach agreement on the proposals for country-by-country public reporting and a common consolidated corporate tax base. Justice on tax has to be at the heart of Europe's future."
