EU-Kosovo agreement gets go-ahead from MEPs
The European Parliament's foreign affairs committee today voted to approve the EU-Kosovo Stabilisation and Association Agreement. Welcoming the vote, Green MEP and EP vice-president Ulrike Lunacek, who is the parliament's rapporteur/draftsperson on Kosovo stated:
"MEPs have today given their clear support to the EU-Kosovo agreement. For the first time, the EU and Kosovo will enter into a contractual agreement. This is very good news and another important step on Kosovo's path towards EU integration. We hope parliament as a whole will now swiftly follow suit and endorse the agreement and that it will enter into force without delay. This will give a major positive signal to Kosovo's citizens and economy. The implementation of the agreement will help institutionalise the reform process. It will also bring new possibilities for Kosovo to strengthen relations with the EU and thus contribute to the stabilisation of the whole region."
