Spanish government must push for social and green Europe

Future of Europe

At the occasion of the Future of Europe debate in the European Parliament with the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, the Presidents of the Greens/EFA group, Ska Keller and Philippe Lamberts, call on the Spanish government to be more vocal in Europe and to resolve the conflict in Catalonia.

Ska Keller said:

“The Spanish government shows in many areas that a greener and a more social Europe is possible. We welcome the Spanish government's very concrete measures to help families in need and to bring forward the energy transition. We call on the Spanish Prime Minister to bring this voice to meetings with his colleagues in Brussels where it is very much needed.

“As the Greens/EFA group we are very worried about the situation in Andalusia. We condemn the governmental agreement between Conservatives, Liberals and the extreme right. No party that claims to stand for European values should help the extreme right to shape our continent. All EPP and ALDE members should push their colleagues in Andalusia to stop this collaboration with the far right.”

Philippe Lamberts added:

“The recent government inherited a lot of problems from its Conservative predecessors, including the conflict in Catalonia. We expect sincere political dialogue from the Prime Minister, which is the only solution to the conflict. We call on the government to find a solution as soon as possible for the Catalan politicians still in prison, including two former members of our Parliamentary group.”
