Judicial reform in Poland - quote from Ska Keller
Article 7
The planned reform of the judiciary in Poland is a "serious breach of the rule of law", according to the majority of MEPs. The European Parliament voted today on a resolution on the European Commission’s decision to activate Article 7 for Poland. The text calls on the EU Heads of State and Government to initiate a rule of law procedure under Article 7.1 of the Treaties of the European Union.
Ska Keller, co-president of the Greens/EFA Group, comments:
"The Polish government is undermining the rule of law and ignoring the protests of Polish judges, lawyers and thousands of citizens. EU governments must not turn a blind eye and must act against the threat to the independence of the judiciary in Poland, irrespective of their party ties. The European Union's credibility is at stake."
The text of the resolution is on the parliament website.
