European summit conclusions
Quote from Ska Keller, Greens/EFA Co-President
Ska Keller, President of the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament on the European summit conclusions:
"This summit buries the right to asylum in Europe. In future, refugees will de facto no longer have the possibility for asylum on European soil. The heads of state and government follow the right-wing nationalist agenda. This does not weaken the right - on the contrary. It’s the Council itself that implements the far-right agenda. But Europe cannot hide from its responsibility and simply abolish a human right. We need a European way forward based on solidarity, rather than prison camps in the Sahara.
"With the debate on migration, European governments are covering up the pressing problems in the EU - be it the erosion of the rule of law in Europe, the long-awaited Eurozone reform and the increasing social inequality in many member states."
