Ukraine
Russian escalation must be met with unified response
Commenting on the latest situation in Ukraine and the decision by the Russian Duma to clear the way for a military intervention, Greens/EFA co-president Rebecca Harms said:
"The dramatic escalation by Russia represents a breach of international law, the likes of which has not been seen in Europe for decades. It has brought us to the brink of a war. In taking such a decision in conflict with the peaceful coexistence of nations, Putin's Russia is stepping out from the international community of the Council of Europe, the OSCE and the UN. The response must be clear and unified:
all treaties and trade agreements with Russia must be frozen. The three foreign ministers of the Weimar Triangle should be given a mandate from the Council of Europe this evening to immediately travel to Moscow. Weak statements about throwing petrol on the fire merely suppress the threatening developments in Crimea and the decision of the Duma."
