Diana Riba MEP alerts on the deteriorating state of the Rule of law

EFA MEP Diana Riba intervened in plenary session today to raise awareness of the current state of the Rule of Law.

The debate based on the report presented by Greens/EFA MEP Terry Rientke shows not only an alarming situation for the rule of law but also on fundamental rights and democracy.

Riba asked the parliament that the health of rule of law as well as the health of fundamental rights and democracy are included in the annual report of the Commission, and it must provide solutions to the problems raised as well as ensuring proper follow-up, including infringement procedures, Article 7 procedures and budgetary conditionality procedures.

Diana Riba i Giner, EFA MEP said:

“Because in this House, the rule of law, fundamental rights, are defended. And not just to point the finger at Poland and Hungary.”

“There are many European countries with worrying democratic shortcomings and a serious deterioration in the rule of law. “

“It is high time that the Commission took this issue seriously and acted firmly before it is too late.”

“ Are you the guarantors of the treaties? Prove it once and for all.”
